The Sorokovoi Forest

The nature monument is located 36 km south of the city of Gdov, 5 km west of the village of Yamm and the Pskov-Gdov road, on the left bank of the Zhelcha river, within the boundaries of the municipal area "Samolvovskaya volost" in Gdov district. A unique, irreplaceable, valuable in ecological, scientific, cultural and aesthetic relations natural-landscape complex.

The whole territory of the nature monument is the most lowered part of the Gdov district. It is a fairly flat lowland (with an altitude amplitude of not more than 10 m), with some ledge to the valley of the Zhelcha river.

Some geological diversity here is formed by the eolian sandy ridge, located along the left bank of the river.

The territory of the natural monument is unique due to its landscape features, diverse habitats and many species of plants and animals, those are subject to special protection, and is inextricably linked with the cultural and historical heritage of the Pskov region.

The main architectural (religious) monuments located on the territory of the nature monument are the Church of the Intercession of Our Lady and the Chapel of St. Hilarion of Gdovsk.

The area of the natural monument is 97 hectares.

It was declared as a specially protected natural area of regional importance in 2007.
